A new compost for a new garden

Posted in Featured, Preparation on Jan 18 by Darryl | PrintText Resizer Text Resizer

On Saturday I built a new double compost bin, in our backyard.

It only took 2.5 hours and just over $120 to make from scratch, and now has the capacity and aeration needed to start building a decent compost supply.

more to come…

Nearly done

About 2/3 of the way through

Done and dusted

All finished, not bad for an office worker

Have been seriously thinking about my family in this area – and I reckon we’re seriously lacking. I have a spare patch of yard (about 2 metres by 8 metres) and I’m wondering what I can do with it. I could probably free up a bit more land. But my past experiences of killing plants & dead & neglected gardens means I’m not hopeful. But I do look forward to reading about your journey and any suggestions for a suburban deadgreen thumb you might have.

    Hey leesa

It is quite amasing what a small plot can yield, even in temporary containers.
I will try and convey a bit from the book that inspired me to do more than i was already.
    Cheers

You got ALL that timber for $120!? Yeah, for an office worker such as myself, I’m really impressed if you knocked it over in 2 1/2 hours, respect! How many blisters did you end up with though?

Yes. It is all mostly fence pickets which are cheap and practical. I bought large fence posts which could be cut in two, so three posts gave me six. It was a good day where everything went to plan.
